More Information on the Moto-Guzzi 1100Sport
The 1100 Sport wanted to be the second proposal sportbike by Moto Guzzi, with more simplified appropriations compared to the legendary Daytona from which descended. The differentiation between the two models, however, was not so marked, and basically it was not even technically, for which the two models eventually cannibalize each other, not allowing to none of the two to break through. Unlike Daytona however, the 1100 Sport was also equipped with the latest evolution of the classic V2 engine , brought from the original 992 cm³ to 1,064 cm³ of Daytona. Daytona from the 1100 Sport also mutuava the formidable chassis designed and developed by John Wittner (for all but Dr. John), a single beam downward rectangular section, which joined the steering head directly to the rear fork. The first version available to feed carburetors, two Dell'Orto 40mm, the second (on the market since 1996) instead rode the excellent sequential electronic injection Weber - Marelli throttle bodies with 45 mm. Both versions had powers around 90 bhp , despite reports of different compression (more stringent 10.5: 1 for the version with carburetors, a more sedate 9.5: 1 for the injection version). The performance of this model, despite a very good frame and an engine no exaggeration in terms of maximum power but with high torque right from idling speed (typical of V2 Moto Guzzi), however, were affected by a rubber anachronistic (with 17 ' 'front and 18' 'at the rear). The rapid developments of tires of those years (especially with regard to the drive wheel) became available very wide rubberizing and therefore capable of much more power to the ground. The swing arm configuration with floating gimbal, but especially the limited resources available, not allowed to redesign the rear axle as a function of this type of tire, thus limiting the performance of the 1100 Sport. A level of cycling the first version was equipped with a front fork Marzocchi from 41.7 mm, which was replaced in the second version of the excellent White Power upside down, fully adjustable, recovery from the Daytona RS. At the rear mono shock absorber always sported a White Power fully adjustable. The braking system was the excellent Brembo with 4-piston calipers, front double disc and single disc in the rear. Between the two versions differed also: - Oil Cooler: not present in the first version - The rims: 3 split spokes the first, three individual breeds (Marchesini aluminum), the second - The side plates of the frame: drilled on the frame in first version and filled in the second with the addition of a label with the eagle of Mandello - steering plates and front fender, substantially to suit different forks as already mentioned above - the graphics of the written 1100 Sport on codon: in italics on first version while the second are in capital letters with the words 1100 enclosed in an oval
