More Information on the Proton KR3
The KR V3 is a motorcycle racing developed by former world champion Kenny Roberts and managed through his team , also raced in the 500cc class of the World Championship from 1997 to 2003 , initially under the banner of the company Malaysian Modenas as Modenas KR V3 and later under those of compatriot Proton as Proton KR V3 . The context [ change | change wikitext ] After being tied for many years at Yamaha , first as a pilot and later as the team manager who brought competing models of the house of Iwata , at the end of the World Championship in 1996 the relationship broke off. Kenny Roberts then decided to start developing a his motorcycle; differently from what it was the period of the standard, its choice was oriented towards a motorization yes to two times but in a threecylinder configuration, while the other competitors used fourcylinder engines. For the design made use of facilities located in the UK and the technical collaboration Tom Walkinshaw , even seeking to use technologies derived from Formula 1 of the time . At the same time he obtained a funding from the state company Modenas . It made its debut at the 1997 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix , Grand Prix inaugural season under the leadership of JeanMichel Bayle and Kenny Roberts Jr (son of the designer); the race ended with two retirements in the tests after the pilots had respectively won the 17th to 19th place . Throughout the rest of the season was never able to get better placements and eighth place in the constructors' championship, he came in 5th place while the two riders came to the 16th place to the 18th Roberts and Bayle . L ' following year instead of Bayle raced Ralf Waldmann but the results were again quite modest, with a sixth place as best result; worse still went into the 1999 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season where, lost Kenny Roberts Jr passed to Suzuki , the KR 3 was driven by several pilots during the year, without ever going beyond the twelfth. Present again in 2000 , he managed to obtain an eighth place as best result and, at the end of that season, also ended the partnership with Modenas. Thus began a second phase for the KR3 that, as of the 2001 season was presented under the banner of the new sponsor, also Malaysian , the automaker Proton ; the only race driver was Jurgen van den Goorbergh that at the end of the world came to the 13th place. This was also the last year of existence of the 500 class , replaced by 2002 by the new MotoGP . As permitted by Regulation coexistence of the old twostroke with the new fourstroke of displacement double, even in MotoGP in 2002 the ProtonKR [1] [2] [3] [4] recurred still KR3 team, entrusting in this case Nobuatsu Aoki and Jeremy McWilliams who still managed to bring it occasionally in the top ten. Just this year, near the end of his racing career, KR V3 won its first and only pole position at the Australian Grand Prix with McWilliams. At the beginning of the 2003 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season the Team KR was the only one left now to appear in the first races of the season yet with a motorcycle twostroke given the delay in the preparation of the new Proton KR5 and so the last race which saw the KR to V3 departure was the French GP .
